Speech Day & Prize Giving 2018
Speech Day & Prize Giving 2018
Bolingbroke Academy held its sixth Speech Day & Prize Giving on Friday 21st September 2018 at Transformation House on St John's Hill. This is a key date in the school calendar whereby we bring all pupils, students, staff, parents, guests and Governors together to celebrate the achievements of the previous academic year.
Ms Edis opened the ceremony with her address and gave an informative, engaging and heartfelt reflection on the previous year and on the school itself, which this year sees ten years since the former Bolingbroke Hospital closed. As Ms Edis explained, the motto of the hospital and now of the school 'Fortiter Ubique' meaning 'Ever Courageous' is lived by all those in the Bolingbroke community and something which we should all be proud of.
The audience were then treated to an energetic performance from selected Music Scholars & Apprentices who wowed us with their instrumental and singing talents.
Ms Edis then welcomed award winning choir conductor of London's Kingdom Choir; Karen Gibson, as our Guest Speaker. We were honoured to welcome her this year and she held the entire audience captive with her inspirational and motivational speech.
Ms Gibson talked about the meaning of friendships and making the right choices in life and telling the children how they have every opportunity available to them and to make the most of their time at achool and choose wisely. Ms Gibson then taught the audience a song and had everyone to their feet singing along. Congratulations to Eugenie Faure, Nya Calder and Moniece Mullings who joined Ms Gibson on stage and sang harmony together.
After such an incredible first half of the ceremony - the speeches - we then moved on to the all important Prize Giving. Presented in subject order, each Head of Department presented a trophy to a Senior and Junior winner. As nominations were shown on the screen, whoops of joy and rounds of applause were given by peers and teachers alike.
Each winner was congratulated by the Head of Department and then given their trophy by Ms Gibson and had a photo taken with her. It was a very special and proud moment for all of the presenters and the winners and we would like to congratulate all of our 2017-18 winners again.
After a fantastic prize giving and with very sore hands from all the rounds of applause we welcomed the Head Boy; Shannon Clarke and Head Student Girl; Salma Awale who delivered a professional and empathetic Vote of Thanks to the school.
The Music Scholars, Apprentices, Senior Bolingbroke and Boys Choir and accompanied by Senior Band treated us to a rousing performance of 'New York, New York' by Frank Sinatra which had lots of feet tapping and singing along from pupils and parents.
To end the event the whole audience stood to sing the National Anthem and then with a chher an dlast round of applause, that was Annual Speech Day & Prize Giving 2018 all over for another year!
Huge congratulations to all our nominees and winners, to all those involved with puttin gon the event and to our Governors, guests and parents, we were truly grateful for your support and encouragement.
With thanks to Transformation House for permission to use their venue, Delphine de Syon for the incredible photographs and to Asquiths London for the trophies.
