Sports day promises a fun day of sporting competition for pupils, staff and parents

Putting in some practice for the 100m

Bolingbroke’s athletes will be limbering up for tomorrow (Tuesday) when the Academy’s annual sports day is being held on Trinty Fields.

With the weather forecast to be fine and sunny, and temperatures in the mid-20’s it promises to be a great day of sporting competition for pupils, parents and staff.

The event kicks off at 10.30am with the 1500m while other track events over various distances will follow, with the 100m being scheduled from 2pm and the 100m relay at 2.30pm. Field events including the discus and long jump will also be held during the day, while a welly boot throwing contest, a three legged race and an egg and spoon race will lighten the mood! The day culminates in the hotly contested House tug of war followed by the parents v staff tug of war.

In addition to the sporting activity, there will be a number of PA fundraising stalls selling cakes, doughnuts, sweets, Kool-Aid and Oddono’s ice cream, while face painting, henna tattooing, hair spray and glitter face paint will all be on offer.

Pupils will also get the opportunity to try out various enrichement taster sessions during the day, including boxing, cheerleading and breakdancing.

A great deal of planning and organisation goes into the day, and we are looking for volunteers, so if anyone can spare a few hours to help out  we’d be really grateful. We need assistance in loading up the van in the morning from the school to Trinity Fields at 8am, as well as help throughout the activities.

A big thank you in advance to Martin the groundsman at Trinity Fields; Ernest Bevin for lending us some sports equipment; the MC for the day Martin Smith; Rolf de Polla for lending us his van; Oddono’s Ice cream; all of the staff for helping out and in particular the PE department without whom the day would not be possible.
