Year 7 Musical Showcase

After just a short time learning a new instrument, Year 7 hosted their inaugural Music Concert at St Michael’s Church in Battersea to a very full house.

All sections took part in the concert – Brass, Guitar, Woodwind and Voice, covering a wide range of musical styles and genres. Mr Alexander, who led the Brass section was thrilled with the pupils who rounded off the concert with a “modern, upbeat and fantastically loud ‘Arriba’!” and Bolingbroke Choir who performed a rousing rendition of 'Halo' by Beyonce.

Ms Breckon accompanied the Bolingbroke choir and said "I was so incredibly proud of the singing; the choir have practiced hard and it really paid off on the night."

Ms Auguste led the Woodwind section whose core classical repertoire included ‘Ode to Joy’ impressed the whole audience with a superb ‘Bolero’, which as she commented “Not least is it a very moving piece of music which the pupils really delivered beautifully, but it also stirred up memories of Torville & Dean all those years ago”. We wait with baited breath to see if the Music department would consider their next concert on ice perhaps!

Mr King led the Guitar ensemble who played an excellent Theme From James Bond where Loybet Yifru led an absolutely smashing solo. Josiah Inniss also played the lead part for Fur Elise accompanied by the the rest of his class which sounded beautiful. And to round everything off the last of the guitar groups played 'Smoke On The Water' to great applause.

A huge thank you to all those involved; the determination and enthusiasm really paid off!

With thanks to Delphine De Syon for the photos.
