Bolingbroke Y7 boys squander early 4-0 lead to end up with a draw against local rivals

The Bolingbroke boys warming up before last week's  clash against Ernest Bevin at Falcon Park

After storming into an early 4-nil lead, this match last Thursday against a strong Ernest Bevin team ended up being a wake up call for Bolingbroke’s Year 7  boys with the final scoreline a 4-4 draw.

Manager Jon De Maria summed up the game as one of three thirds, with Bolingbroke playing some neat passing football for the first 20 minutes of the match. This resulted in four goals, two by Zaki, and a further two which were penalties awarded for a handball and a push and succesfully taken by Mati. However, in the following 20 minutes Ernest Bevin got firmly into their stride and the Bolingbroke side struggled to maintain their discipline and formation under relentless pressure, leading to the boys conceding four goals in rapid succession.

“Going into the final 20 minutes we fought our way back into the game, and either team could have knicked a late winner,” said De Maria, who conceded the end result was probably “fair”, adding that there were no excuses, however, for squandering a four nil lead. “It’s still early days and hopefully lessons will be learned with now lots of work on the training paddock to be done.”

To date the Year 7 squad have played three games, won two and drawn one, with the final pool game against Chestnut Grove. Before that the team have a friendly against Thames Christian College at Falcon Park on January 28th.

Meanwhile, a very big thanks to  our sponsors, local firm Mark Bennett Coaches who supplied free coach travel for our boys to get to Ernest Bevin and to Falcon Park.
