Bolingbroke's musicians showcase their talent at Open Mic night to great acclaim

Some of Bolingbroke's talented young musicians playing at the recent Open Mic night

A recent Open Mic night at Battersea’s Fresh Ground Café gave Bolingbroke’s young musicians the perfect platform to showcase their talent in front of an appreciative audience of parents and members of the public.

Pupils from Years 8 – 13 turned out to display their musical prowess, and it was testament to the quality of musicianship that we have here at Bolingbroke that a number of performances were written by the pupils themselves – The Basement Boys (Marti, Lukas, Oliver and Cameron) played two of their own songs; the audience lapped up yet another song of Finn Morgan-Murrell’s own making, while Year 8’s Pierre Hayman played a piece on slide guitar that he had written himself.

Year 8 band Reverb entertaining the audience with a medley of numbers

We were also treated to some fantastic renditions of famous numbers such as Nirvana’s Come As You Are, by Year 8 band Reverb (Alfie, Maleeque, Oscar and Josh), and Basic Shades (Megan, Dexter and Manuel, and also featuring Glen) version of Kanye’s Gold Digger.

Many thanks to Michelle at Fresh Ground, who so generously allowed us to perform at her café again, strengthening our bond with the wider community as well as giving our pupils an alternative platform to perform on. Here’s to next time!
