Virtual 'Concert by Candlelight'

Monday 21 December 2020

This year’s Concert by Candlelight was rather different from previous years, recorded with no audience in The Commons and streamed the next day to pupils, parents and staff in their homes via a Microsoft Teams event. Despite this, it was still a wonderfully festive community event, jam-packed with ensemble performances, bringing together and celebrating the rich musical talent from across the whole school.

After Year 8's Sebastian opened the concert with a spine-tingling solo verse of Once in Royal David’s City, Senior Band wowed the viewers at home with a spectacular rendition of the theme from The Incredibles – with particularly stand-out playing from the band’s drummer, Hugo in Year 10. Other highlights included Rhythm of Life by the Bolingbroke Choir, Last Christmas by the Senior Vocal Group, some fabulous jazz improvisation in It Don’t Mean a Thing by the Year 12 musicians, Send Me On My Way by all the Music Scholars and Apprentices, and not to mention the Staff and Sixth Form Band performance of Wonderful Christmastime!

Year 11s Oriah and Dani compered the whole event with confidence and style, bringing comedy to the transitions between songs, and the Parents Association Raffle was drawn by Year 8s Amelie, Finn and Valentina who drew all the prizes seamlessly.

Thank you so much to the Music Team and all 100 pupils and staff who were involved in the concert to make it such a success this year!
