Year 8 Shakespeare's Globe Theatre Trip

Year 8 Trip to Shakespeare's Globe Theatre

On Wednesday 8th March a group of 30 Year 8 Bolingbroke Academy students attended Shakespeare’s Globe to watch a performance of The Taming of the Shrew. With tickets marked ‘groundling’ the students were both intrigued and excited at the prospect of standing up in the theatre. Before the show began the students were given the opportunity to speak to the actors as they wandered around The Yard. They were keen to ask questions about the show, the Globe Theatre and life as an actor. Michael Fenner, who plays Baptista in the show gave the students lots of tips on how to become an actor.

The show stayed true to its original storyline whilst adding in modern day humour, singing and dancing. The students particularly enjoyed the prospect of interacting with the characters on stage; cheering, booing and singing along! The character of Gremio riding around the stage on his mobility scooter whilst dancing to Jessie J was a highlight for lots of the pupils.

One pupil who came on the trip said, "I really enjoyed watching The Taming of the Shrew because it was interesting and the acting was amazing. The director managed to include modern songs into the play and it was really funny. The actors were really friendly to us before the show too. I am really happy that I was able to go."

Everyone who attended the trip had a fantastic time and many were given the opportunity to visit Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre for the first time, making it a very exciting and enjoyable day for all!
