Our school opened its doors 9 years ago, this is only our fourth sixth form cohort applying to university.
Despite our economically disadvanted intake, low school funding and lack of resources, during lockdown, students accessed lessons live online five days a week. This was a condensed version of their regular timetable – where two hours of teaching was deducted per subject taken. Over 75% of our students accessed lessons by phone or a shared device. 100% of students attended online lessons regularly, some leaving their houses to access the school wifi from outside, many navigating difficult home environments alongside study. The resilience and courage of our students was remarkable during this time – all of them striving to stay on top of their subjects regardless of barriers.
