Last Wednesday, Year 7 took a field trip to the London Zoo in Regent's Park.
The day started with a trip to the gorilla family. These incredible great apes are so closely related to humans, and we were able to see powerful silverback as well as the younger gorillas!
Next, we visited Butterfly Paradise, a huge greenhouse filled with beautiful butterflies from around the world. We watched these delicate creatures flutter all around us, sometimes even landing on the students!
One of the highlights was seeing the pride of Asiatic lions in their excellent new enclosure, which mimics their native habitats in India. The zookeepers explained that this subspecies is endangered, making London Zoo's conservation efforts particularly important.
Other highlights included visiting the walk-in spider and monkey enclosures, the tropical rainforest rooms and the farm animal petting zoo.
The day concluded with the entire year group watching the amazing Penguin Beach Live! show, where a large colony of penguins swam and waddled right in front of us. The zookeepers gave an engaging talk about the different penguin species and their adaptations for life in the Antarctic.
Overall, our trip provided an unforgettable chance to see incredible animals from all over the world and see diverse ecosystems which directly relate to the Year 7 ecology topic! It was also a great opportunity to learn about the importance of conservation. We are so grateful to London Zoo for this educational adventure!
